Based in the Gloucester office of the Hunter Law Firm, Amy M. P. VanFossen represents clients in Family and Criminal Law cases filed in twenty-one jurisdictions from Essex County to Virginia Beach. As a mother and former cheerleader, Amy shows her clients the compassion and positivity one might expect, but don’t let her tiny frame and sunny disposition fool you. In the courtroom, she’s all business, focused on the facts, and will stand her ground in your behalf.
With the competitive nature needed to win cases, Amy has always thrived on a challenge. Raised in Gloucester, her competitive spirit first revealed itself as she competed in baton, gymnastics, dance and cheerleading. At the age of 17, Amy was the first student from Gloucester High to attend Stanford, one of our country’s most prestigious universities. There she made her mark by establishing the cheerleading program that still exists today. That experience working alongside Stanford’s football coaches, Dennis Green, Tyrone Willingham, and Brian Billick, fueled Amy’s interest in sports and entertainment law, which she pursued at Tulane University in New Orleans. During her law school summers, Amy lived in Atlanta in order to intern with a prominent sports agent, who is now the Vice President of the NFL.
In 1999, Amy returned home to Hampton Roads to be close to her family. Now with a family of her own, Amy is active in her children’s school and the Gloucester community as a whole. The value she places in family carries over into her work at the Hunter Law Firm as she helps her clients handle the delicate matters of divorce, custody and child support. In addition to her work in Family and Criminal Law cases, Amy has also handled numerous appeals to the Virginia Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Virginia. One of her most successful appeals motivated the Virginia General Assembly to enact new legislation related to registration by sex offenders – a significant win for this mother of three.
